The only instance in which this matters is if this affects how the team feels about Terry. If they feel betrayed then he should definitely lose the strip, maybe even go. If they feel like this is an overblown cheap media dig, then he should stay. Capello will handle it. Nothing else to say.

I didn't say anything about the England captaincy, or Terry, if you were talking to me in that portion of your response. Concerning the First Division, that's what the Premiership is, as FIFA recognizes it. The division that includes clubs such as Millwall is League One isn't it, not the First Division?

"He does, in fact, need to go"

On person will decide this, and that person is Capello. That, is a fact.

Being an Italian he's not as cynical as many manoeuvred by the media in our country (he had to deal with Gazzetta Dello Sport in Italy, far worse than the media here) and will make his mind up on a footballing basis.

In that sense, and with all the indignation and scandal aside, JT is still the best captain on the pitch, bar none.

No severe case of xenophobia, just can't stand people who have little idea about a) our game and b) the media in this country and how it works, swallowing and reacting to their crap just as they want you to.

There has been a consistent and sustained campaign by both the Mail and NOTW for the past several months to get Terry removed as captain because he doesn't play ball with them, they would rather have Mr ABH Gerrard or prostitute shagging Rooney as captain, when neither of them have the organisational capabilities on the pitch that Terry does.

If you'd ever played the game (properly) you'd also know that the best position for a captain is central defence, as they can see all in front of them (with some notable mid-field exceptions, such as Bryan Robson and such luminaries).

If you like the 'English soccer first division' then you should be commenting on Swindon, Yeovil, Norwich and Millwall. Above the first division is the Championship, then the Premiership. Christ, you can't even get the league right what hope is there for you?

Oh and taking on the mantle of the 'grammar police' is pedantic, and facetious.

Now, if you want to get political, you really should check your history, King George was a wily old soul and allowed you to think you'd 'kicked our asses' - your revolution was nothing more that a con to turn your nation from free men, into debtors to king George. Google who owns the US Fed, or the IRS - who collects your taxes. Clue, it's not the US.

Some more info here; http://www.natural-person.ca/pdf/Great_Britain_owns_USA.PDF - however I shouldn't be re-educating you about your history on a 'soccer' site, you should find out for yourself and dispel the myths taught in school (as I have done with our country, and I know we're certainly no saints, either).

What everyone who's saying he should loose the captaincy are forgetting is that a) this is to do with football, and specifically the position of captaincy, b) that whether you like it or not, the role is expected in include other social responsibilities and c) it will and has, have massive derogatory effects if he stays on

If he stays as captain there will be a massive media shit storm that will envelop the world cup build up. England will be in a position of going into the 1st WC they've had the chance to win in donkeys years with a press actively willing to destory their captain and a fanbase who in the majority hate their own leader...this is farcical surely?

Add to this the possibility that this will seriously destabilize the team, having a captain who had knobbed one of his teammates wives and you have a whole host of problems leading into a WC...all brought on by the captain

The scenario of Terry relinquishing the captaincy see's the media placated, the fans placated, and possible player greivances placated and the sponsors and affiliates placated by a less damaging and controversial ambassadorial figure head

Lets not forget that when Capello re-appointed Terry it was hardly a universally praised or expected decision...This whole rubbish that Terry is the only possible of leading England has been mythically resurrected purely as a rebutal to the moral indignation caused by these revelations...Terry can still stay in the team and act as a leader on the pitch (if he suddenly started to play shit because he wasn't captain then he was never really captain material in the 1st place) whilst going into the world cup with a unanimously supportive media and fanbase, plus any animosity in the team quelled...

Surely this is the most sensible solution all round??...Those defending Terry are being just as short sighted, naive and reactionary as those instantly condemning him....He does, in fact, need to go

Johnny English, you need to see a psychotherapist to get over your severe case of xenophobia...and an English teacher (it's "they're"). And this country also gave you the personal computer, by the way...not to mention a World War II victory...and we kicked your asses in the period between 1775 and 1783...but I'm not that upset over your comment. I like England and its soccer 1st division. Yeah, I say soccer because that's the word in our language, but it's not disrespectful. If we're on this site it's because we like it, and there's a fair chance we don't like some of the other American sports to which you alluded.

"ff. Rio, Gerrard, Lampard and Rooney may not be perfect themselves either, but bottom line is that they haven’t gone behind their own teammates backs and pulled such actions that JT has pulled."

No, Rio 'forgot' drugs tests and has been banned for punching an opponent. Gerrard battered a DJ for not playing the songs he wanted as well as being a serial cheat and diver, Rooney sleeps with prostitutes behind his missus' back and effs and blinds at referee's week in, week out and Lampard has played away too.

They may not have 'gone behind their team mates backs' but they've done equal to or worse than JT, and you're holding them up as some sort of pariah? Also, aren't you forgetting Miss Vanessa in all of this? She's as guilty as JT, so where's her press and blogosphere assassination?

Now, Brendan is it? Brendan, I never said you weren't entitled to your opinions, please don't put words into my mouth or onto my posts, you can have them (and christ knows, Americans like to opine) and you're welcome to them, however please don't get all indignant about issues within our national game when there are a million and one worse issues in your own.

Glass houses, and all that.

JT is supposed to be a positive role model on and off the field if he is to lead his club and country as captain. I think it is ridiculous how someone who so many look to for guidance and leadership is pulling this kind of stuff off. Rio, Gerrard, Lampard and Rooney may not be perfect themselves either, but bottom line is that they haven't gone behind their own teammates backs and pulled such actions that JT has pulled. If England are gonna go this distance this summer, they're gonna need a captain/leader that everyone knows and trusts. I think JT's actions just speak for themselves that this man is just not suited for such responsibility anymore.

And to Johnny English, we may be 'yankie boys' but it doesn't mean we aren't entitled to our opinions. I don't care whether you think we 'don't know' about football. It's a sport that is loved around the world. If you want to be ignorant to other people's opinions and comments over some of the sport's most controversial subjects then I suggest you stop wasting your time on football blogs.
