Central defenders are going out of style in the city of Manchester, and City boss Roberto Mancini is set to play Micah Richards in the heart of defense to resolve the problem in the blue half of the city.
With Joleon Lescott injured and Kolo Toure flying out to Angola for a well timed international tournament, City will be pairing Vincent Kompany with Richards against Middlesbrough this weekend.
About the role change, Richards said: “I like the freedom of playing full back but I am equally happy at centre half.
“I feel as if I am coming into the game in a decent patch of form and hopefully that will continue.
“We want to win every match and the Boro game is no different.
“We don’t want to be fall guys and help kick start the second half of Boro’s season.”
