Current Russian national team manager Guus Hiddink has reportedly declined an offer from North Korea to manage their national team. Hiddink was very open about his disappointment about not qualifying for the World Cup, and after seeing Russia lose out to Slovenia in the playoffs it is speculated that Hiddink will not jump ship to a team that will be playing in South Africa this summer.
Dutch television confirmed Hiddink’s decision to decline the North Korean job. Voetbal International has claimed that Hiddink stated “respect for the Russian football federation” as the major factor in his decision, but with rumors linking him to a plethora of jobs around football it’s unlikely that he’ll stay with Russia beyond the turn of the new year.
Last week Hiddink was distanced from rumors linking him to both Argentina and Turkey, and the Dutch manager appears to be leaning more towards a return to club management. IMScouting reports that Hiddink was spotted at Malpensa Airport as he arrived in Italy to discuss a potential return to management with Juventus. The Italian giants are struggling as of late, and current manager Ciro Ferrara is rumored to be on the way out.
