The World Cup is only six months away, but with the groups already drawn the speculation is already mounting. German captain Michael Ballack insists that Group D will be no easy walk in the park for the World Cup 2002 finalists.
Germany, as a top seed, were drawn with Serbia, Ghana, and Australia in Group D, one of the most difficult groups in the tournament. Ballack, who plays his club football for Chelsea, has warned his fellow countrymen that any of the four teams in the group can move on to the round of sixteen.
Speaking to Kicker, Ballack said: “We do not have the consistency or strength in depth in the squad.
“We have been too weak, particularly in friendlies, to be able to say we have the class to beat everybody else.
“You can forget about us having had the luck of the draw – we have a tough group and all three opponents are uncomfortable and physically very strong.
“We are going to have to put our foot down from the very beginning.”
