Wigan Athletic’s Maynor Figueroa scored what could be the goal of the season during Wigan’s 2-2 draw away to Stoke City today. With the score level at 1-1, Wigan were awarded a free-kick in their own half, and after taking a quick glance at Stoke goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen, Figueroa launched a blistering shot into the upper right hand corner.
Unluckily for Figueroa, his goal may have been lingering on his teammates’ minds as only two minutes later Ryan Shawcross equalized for Stoke City. The score remained 2-2 until the 90th minute, when Wigan were granted a penalty. Hugo Rodallega, a man in form, stepped up to take the penalty, but Stoke’s Sorensen denied the Colombian to keep up his great penalty saving record (he has only conceded one of his last six faced Premier League penalties).
Below is a video of Figueroa’s goal. Be sure to view it now, as it may not be up for too long!

I don’t know….
It was a great strike, plus it was a heads up play,
but i think the degree of difficulty and the importance of the goal that Arshavin scored today against Liverpool was a better goal this week, nevermind the entire season..
I was watching this match, for some unknown reason having no particular interest in either team, but i was glad i did when i saw this cracker, if this isn’t goal of the season then there is something wrong!
