di Maria ends English speculation

By | 18th November 2009

Argentine youngster Angel di Maria has quashed speculation linking him with a move to England, saying that he has never spoken to the English press and has never “dreamed of” a move to English shores.

The Benfica midfielder was linked with potential moves to some of the Premiership’s top clubs including Manchester United, Manchester City, and Arsenal, but the Europa League standout now insists that the reports are all fabricated.

“I am surprised,” di Maria told Benfica’s official website. “This is the only thing that I can say when I read supposed declarations that have been attributed to me, but the truth is that I never made them.

“Those who know me know that those words are not mine, nor is it the way that I am accustomed to speaking. On the other hand, my head is with Benfica, which I have said recently.

“I am very focused on the team’s objectives. It was Benfica who showed confidence in me and because of this, I want to repay the club and all of the supporters who support me daily.

“I am concentrating on Benfica, regardless of the rumors that have surfaced. I don’t know what interest these newspapers have when they publish declarations that I never made.”

  1. It's too bad that Di Maria isn't interested in moving right now, he could easily be one of the South Africa 2010 World Cup stars.

It would be wonderful if Man city could get him, that would really be a star signing.
