Manchester United are in hot pursuit of Benfica’s 21 year old Argentina midfielder, Angel di Maria. di Maria has been tipped by national team manager Diego Maradona as one of the nation’s hottest up and coming stars, and his club form has put Sir Alex Ferguson on red alert.

di Maria has recently pit his wits against some of the Premier League’s best as Benfica tackled Everton in the Europa League. di Maria helped Benfica to a 5-0 win over the Toffees and was one of the brightest performers for the Portuguese club.

Benfica signed the young Argentina from Rosario Central for €8 million in July 2007, and it would take a sizable bid to pry him away from Lisbon. Ferguson, however, is reportedly unhappy with the form of his current wingmen, with Nani in particular failing to impress and Ji-Sung Park currently out injured.
