The swine flu is claiming even more victims in football as Spanish club Real Betis has revealed that around 13 of its players have contracted the troublesome virus. The report comes after football fans have seen both Blackburn and Bolton hit by the virus, and one French Ligue 1 fixture has even been cancelled.
Real Betis, meanwhile, have ceased training during this difficult and dangerous time, and the club is seeking a cancellation of its weekend fixture.
Media reports in Spain indicated that Sergio Garcia, Arturo Arzu, Sunny, Carlos Garcia and Nelson all had flu-like symptoms, while Augusto Nelson, Damia Abella, Juan de Dios Prados, Israel Bascon and Ricardo Soares are all being closely watched for the infection.
Real Betis take on Villareal B on Sunday in Spain’s second division, but that fixture is under consideration at the moment.
