Joleon Lescott has called on himself and his Manchester City teammates to improve on their woeful defending. City have conceded eleven goals in their opening nine Premier League fixtures, and Lescott believes that they can improve on that record. With so many new players in City’s back four, the club aims to complement its profitable attack with a solid defense.
“I feel I am settling into City’s defence with every passing game. The longer you play alongside people the better and easier it gets,” said Lescott.
“We haven’t kept a clean sheet for a number of games now, so that is the first objective and we are determined to achieve that.
“Everyone in the back four is relatively new to the club, maybe it’s because of that. At the moment we are not doing what we are there to do, keep clean sheets, and we must start doing our jobs.”
Manchester City travel to St. Andrews this weekend to take on a Birmingham team that beat Sunderland last weekend. A win on Sunday could see Mark Hughes’ side break into the top four depending on the results from the North London derby.
