For many Premier League outsiders, it’s always been a mystery as to how Sir Alex Ferguson assembles his loyal following of top flight managers. Roberto Martinez, a fresh face to the Premier League this season for Wigan, has revealed some of the inner secrets of the manager sanctum.
“Ferguson has his group of loyal fans among other managers. Steve Bruce, who was his player; Sam Allardyce, who thinks he will be his successor at Old Trafford, and others. On the opposite side Benitez is alone and thus gets stick from all sides,” said the Wigan boss.
While it’s not much, it gives fans a good glimpse as to how managers interact amongst each other. An interesting point raised by Martinez is how isolated Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is. Rafa not only catches a lot of flak from the media, but his managerial counterparts have all been casting mean glances at the Spaniard.
Wigan currently find themselves sitting 10th in the Barclays Premier League table following their 3-1 win over Burnley at the weekend.
