Manchester United, Everton, Sunderland, and Birmingham. All of them have entered, but not one of them has exited for the better.
As I’ve mentioned on many occasions, Turf Moor is one of the worst places for a visiting team to travel to. The crowd is insane, and Burnley always are ready to impress their fans. Maybe it is because they too are scared of the backlash that their fans so willingly dish out to opposing squads. Either way, Turf Moor has come to be associated with being more of a fortress in recent history. This can ben seen by their 11 match home winning streak that they brought into their match this past Saturday against Wigan.
With all of the big clubs suffering defeat at the hands of Turf Moor, who was to say that a hit or miss club such as Wigan could waltz on in and snap the winning streak? I certainly wasn’t predicting it to happen, but Hugo Rodallega had something to say about it.
It seemed as though Burnley would be able to take down Wigan as well in their quest to stay perfect when Steven Fletcher scored just four minutes into the match. Burnley’s confidence was swelling, but then Rodallega was also able to find the net just seven minutes later with an easy tap in from just outside the six yard box. The score would stay that way heading into the half.
I’m not sure what was said during the break, but Wigan came out looking like the squad that had dismantled Chelsea 3-1 the previous week. Less than six minutes into the second half, Rodallega scored a cracker of a shot that clanked off the left-hand post. That put Wigan up 2-1, and it was all they would need. They would score another goal in the 76th minute, but the damage had already been done.
Do two consecutive 3-1 victories prove that Wigan is finally for real? I don’t know, but one thing that Hugo Rodallega has proven is that he is on top of his game right now. With his two goals over the weekend, he now has five total for the season, and that total will only look to increase in the coming weeks.
Hugo Rodallega, you had a fantastic match this weekend, and were able to finally take down Burnley at Turf Moor, and that is exactly why you are this week’s Premiership Talk Wednesday Wonder!
Was Rodallega the correct choice this week? Have your say below!
No offence but you make Turf moor out to be somewhere like the Brittania, Goodison Park or WHL where the crowd is always putting pressure on the away teams and encouraging the home team. It is not, Turf Moor is no better than Hull and it has embarassing songs sang there. I mean who says ‘beast’ everytime a goalkeeper makes a save?! Its a joke.
Bill – ask Manchester United, Everton, Sunderland, and Birmingham about Turf Moor.
Bill: There’s got to be something special about Turf Moor seeing Burnley did just have an 11 match home winning streak. Sure they played some easy teams, but they also have beaten the clubs I mentioned in the article. Burnley is not a big and powerful club, so there must be something magical about Turf Moor.
I think that maybe I’ve been discounting Wigan too much over the past couple of seasons. We could be seeing Wigan finally showing what they are capable of, and Hugo Rodallega is the key figure.
Definitely the proper choice. Rodallega is on fire, and he’s doing at Wigan what Darren Bent does for Sunderland. He’s a class act.
