Martin O’Neill has expressed his delight at the form of Aston Villa number two Brad Guzan, who has so far been restricted to the sidelines as fellow countryman Brad Friedel occupies the number one spot. O’Neill claims that Guzan is so good that he could walk into virtually any Premier League side, tipping the former Chivas USA player as a potential United States number one.
“My own view is that Brad Guzan is good enough to play in quite a number of Premier League teams,” said O’Neill.
“It is right that he has kept Brad Friedel on his toes and done very well since coming here and he wants to learn and get better.
“He also has something else to think about now that the United States have qualified for the World Cup finals.
“Guzan would be keen to put a bit of competition in for that goalkeeping spot as well which is currently occupied by Tim Howard.”
Meanwhile, if Brad Friedel takes the nets against Everton on Saturday then he will be making his 200th consecutive Premier League appearance.
