David Beckham Said No to Liverpool  | read this item

david beckhamIn preparation for the 2010 World Cup, David Beckham once again sought out a move to Europe following the close of the Major League Soccer season. His destination of choice was a return to San Siro with AC Milan, but the Rossoneri weren’t the only ones making a move for Becks. If Rafa Benitez could have his way, Becks would be preparing for a move to Liverpool.

That’s right, Rafa Benitez reportedly offered David Beckham the chance to move to Liverpool. While Beckham saw former England teammate make the switch from Merseyside to Manchester, Beckham wanted to avoid a similar fate. Owen has been heavily criticized by his Reds (former) faithful for signing for their bitter rivals.

Beckham’s Los Angeles Galaxy side are currently first place in MLS’s Western Conference standings and have already clinched a spot in the 2010 playoffs. At the end of the season Beckham will return to AC Milan on loan, where he hopes to cement his spot in Fabio Capello’s World Cup side.

Would David Beckham have been better off going to Liverpool? Have your say below!

  1. Mike Diamente says:

Milan need Beckham more than Liverpool do.

  2. Zain Alvi says:

If Beckham arrived at Liverpool, there would have been a hysteria of a whole different level. The Premier League would be buzzing about that move for weeks to follow, which would have really put even more pressure on an already distracted Liverpool side. Whether the Scousers would have improved as a result of that pressure is difficult to tell. But I do agree with The Binocular – there seems to be little merit to this story.

  3. The Binocular says:

It would have been interesting to see this happen.

Especially since it seems Liverpool lack width.

Anyway I doubt there is much merit in this story.
