Now that the internationals are finished, attention is turning back to the Premier League at last. The international break brought loads of transfer rumors, plenty of boring and pointless matches, and a much needed break for fantasy football players around the world.
As action resumes and the Premiership Talk Fantasy Football league heats back up, here’s a rundown of the top ten fantasy players this season, based on total points. You can sign up for the Premiership Talk fantasy league by going here, and be sure to get at least some of these guys on your team!

Baines’ inclusion in this list may come as a surprise to some, but the Everton defender has been impressive for the Toffees all season long. In his seven appearances thus far, Baines has grabbed a goal and has consistently played well in the Everton defense. As David Moyes rights the Everton ship further, expect Baines to continue to add to his tally of 88.5 fantasy points.

RvP is Arsenal’s undisputed top striker. He’s been in a rich vein of form this season, already bagging three goals in just seven appearances. van Persie is averaging an impressive 13.29 points per game, and his total of 93 points makes him one of the most valuable players in Yahoo’s fantasy game this year.

Keane hasn’t exactly been setting the world alight for Tottenham this season, but his stunning return of four goals against Burnley shot him up the fantasy rankings. With only one other goal outside of his Burnley performance, Keane has been overshadowed by teammate Jermain Defoe, meaning a better fantasy purchase might be found elsewhere. Still, with a return of 94 points this season, Keane fans will be happy to have him in their side.

Vermaelen has undoubtedly been the bargain of the season. As the cheapest member of this list – costing just 12.41 points – many people jumped on the Vermaelen bandwagon even before he broke the 10 point valuation barrier. The defender’s tally of four goals leaves him at the top of Arsenal’s goalscorers chart, and the former Ajax star is averaging nearly 15 fantasy points per game! If you don’t have Vermaelen in your side then you’re missing out.

Bent has been enjoying a sensational start to the season both on a personal level and on a club level. His great form has coincided with a great start to the season for Sunderland, and eight goals in eight games just goes to show how immense the striker has been. Seldom is there a game where you don’t expect Bent to score, and his point total of 104.5 is up there with the best.

The top five fantasy point-getters this season is no surprise, and Steven Gerrard is right where most people expect him to be. In his eight appearances for Liverpool this season, Gerrard has grabbed three goals and put 13 shots on goal. His overall return of 107 fantasy points makes him a consistent midfielder, but his price tag of nearly 20 makes him tough to get.
4
Arsenal’s inspiration and leading goalscorer (tied with Thomas Vermaelen) is always a surefire bet when it comes to fantasy football, and this year is no different. His position in the midfield makes him less attractive than his striking counterparts, but at fourth place in the total points category he might just be worth his price tag of 21.03. Goals and assists are big points in fantasy, and Cesc never seems to run out of them.
3
Rooney has long been a fantasy mystery; at times he can’t stop scoring, but when he finally does he hits long barren spells with little to no points. Luckily for him and Manchester United fans, Rooney still has plenty left in the tank, and his consistent performances have left him with a point tally of 109.5 for the season on the back of his six goals. His temperament can sometimes lead to trouble with cards, bringing his points total down, but only two strikers in the game can outscore him.
2
Perhaps the best striker in the world, Torres is at the heart of all great Liverpool moves. The Spaniard is matching Darren Bent’s goal per game ratio of eight goals in eight games, and his average points per game of 16.69 leaves him behind only three players. Provided Torres can remain healthy, his 133.5 point tally should rapidly increase, and even at a price of 19.4 he should be well worth the risk.

The Ivorian frontman is the runaway leading point scorer in this year’s fantasy game, and he doesn’t show any signs of stopping. Drogba is averaging nearly 20 points per game as he has six goals on the season and has also added assists to his game (it helps that strike partner Nicolas Anelka is finding the net consistently). Drogba’s total fantasy points total a staggering 155, placing him well above the competition. With Chelsea in the driving seat and Drogba in top form, he is the undisputed fantasy king this season.
