Gunners, City Chase Barca Captain  | read this item

carles puyolArsenal manager Arsene Wenger is hot on the heels of Barcelona captain Carles Puyol. The Frenchman believes that Puyol would be an excellent defensive partner for Thomas Vermaelen, but Premier League rivals Manchester City are also jumping in to the chase.

City manager Mark Hughes looks to continue to bolster his defense, even after signing Kolo Toure and Joleon Lescott over the summer. Puyol would be yet another big name signing at the Eastlands, not only improving City’s on the pitch fortunes but expanding their global brand.

Puyol, who has won all major titles with Barcelona in addition to Euro 2008 with Spain, still has not renewed his contract with the Spanish giants. The 31 year old is a free agent in the summer, and with retirement just around the corner he could be looking for one final challenge.

Would Puyol be a good fit at Arsenal or City? Have your say below!

I think he might be tempted to go for City, providing they offer him a lucrative offer which is juicy for his retirement days

  2. Mike Diamente says:

I honestly don’t think Puyol is going anywhere…

Puyol has happily played in Barcelona his entire career, and Barcelona gives him the best chance of winning a championship than any other team in Europe right now.
