Recently I haven’t being paying a lot of attention to the football world. The time I have spent watching football, though, has been filled with cheating, disgraceful antics, and stupid bickering between managers. This Friday, it’s time for someone to speak the cold, hard truth.
Firstly, there is the diving debacle. Eduardo opened up a huge can of worms against Celtic with his attempt at emulating Cristiano Ronaldo. UEFA tried to make a point by charging him but broke at a bit of pressure put on them by Arsene Wenger. Now any player that dives is free in the knowledge they will not be banned by UEFA and this will fuel more diving in the game.
Of course, there are many culprits in the diving epidemic like Drogba, Ronaldo, and Gerrard. Of course, most England supporters gasp in shock when Gerrard is accused but a light breeze always tends to knock Gerrard over. Drogba hasn’t paraded his diving skills so far this season as he concentrates on being a footballer again. Ronaldo, of course, has been deported to Spain so we no longer have to see the Portuguese prima-donna trying to con the referee at every opportunity… thankfully. It’s easy to see why no one ever liked him.
Maybe Eduardo wanted Ronaldo’s mantle as the most hated footballer in Britain. Fact is, football needed to take a stand against cheaters and it buckled under pressure.
The next event involves the mighty Adebayor. The former Arsenal player thought he was the best thing since sliced bread after his move to City and a few goals against rubbish teams. Obviously it went to his head as he tried to leave Robin Van Persie with a serious injury and nearly created a riot with the Arsenal fans.
Now, I don’t really like Van Persie, but to stamp on a player’s head is an extreme low and shows the kind of person he is. Three game ban and more to come hopefully. Enough has been said about the celebration and he obviously sees the Arsenal fans as being more important than his own City fans.
Alex Ferguson gets a lot right. Small club with a small mentality. Once the new owners throw the toys out of the pram, they’ll be back where they were before. Also, a lot of their supporters must have spent a lot of time hiding in closets over the past few years or else City are giving out free replica jerseys and free tickets to the public. Of course if Carlos Tevez was fit to play at the weekend, we would see more of the small club mentality with him proclaiming City are going to win every trophy they can possibly win and how they’ll win the league by 50 points.
Next up it’s the managers in the spotlight with the focus on Arsene Wenger and Mark Hughes. First it was Wenger denouncing Eduardo’s punishment and the re-appearance of his sight impairment where he doesn’t see any controversial decision in favor of his team.
Then Wenger fancied more controversy in the Adebayor debacle. “I watched it when I got home and it looked very bad. You ask 100 people, 99 will say it’s very bad and the hundredth will be Mark Hughes.” Of course Wenger was right but he would be a bit more credible if he acknowledged his own player’s wrongdoing. Maybe Tony Mowbray could have said after the game in Parkhead “You ask 100 people, 99 will say it wasn’t a penalty and the hundredth will be Arsene Wenger”. I know I may be a bit too sarcastic but the point has to be made.
On the other side of the battlefield we have Mark Hughes who thought van Persie’s injury was caused by magic, not by Adebayor’s boot. Denial is such an awful thing. Because City have so much money perhaps City can ignore the rules and do what they like on a football field.
Finally, I am looking forward to the Manchester derby this weekend and hope City fail to turn up like they did last season. Then City will be put back in their place and they will no longer say how they will beat every team in the league this season. At the end of the day it’s what happens on the pitch that counts.
Is Thomas out of line or is he spot on? Have your say below!

I dont agree with you thomas, soccer is a game that goes over my head but even I know that Alex Ferguson is nothing more than a racehorse trainer.
Thanks bud. Hopefully we’ll see some good football at the weekend.
Good stuff, well said.
