Former Liverpool Target to Join Everton  | read this item

lucas-neillEverton manager David Moyes is keen to land former West Ham United defender Lucas Neill. Everton are short of options at the back following Phil Neville’s recent injury, and Neill certainly fits Everton’s budget. The Australian has been on a free transfer since the expiration of his contract at Upton Park at the conclusion of last season.

Before his transfer to West Ham, Neill was one of Liverpool’s top transfer targets. His status as a free agent may come as a surprise to some, but the defender has been linked with moves to top clubs since the beginning of the summer. Sunderland were rumored to be in for the talented center back, but the club revealed that talks broke down. Another potential deal with Atletico Madrid also failed to come to fruition.

Neill would be a welcome addition to the Everton squad, and he would have the chance to link up with former fellow Socceroo Tim Cahill.

Is Everton right to swoop for Lucas Neill? Comments below, please.
