wayne-rooney-v-besiktasWhen Cristiano Ronaldo left Manchester United over the summer, questions were asked about who would replace the ever-present match winner in Sir Alex Ferguson’s side. Wayne Rooney has thus far proven the man to replace the world’s greatest player, and Tuesday night against Besiktas he took that to a whole new level.

In the second half Rooney was replaced by Michael Owen, and Rooney’s dismay at Sir Alex Ferguson’s decision was there for the world to see. While some are coming down hard on the striker, it is this exact incident that sparks the fire within Wayne and makes him the player he is.

Instead of criticizing the youngster for his outlash, United fans and England fans should be looking to utilize Rooney’s hunger, passion, and intensity. Wayne is the type of player that plays the best when he has a point to prove. Think no further than his countless epic battles against Arsenal – he was there when Arsenal’s 49 game unbeaten string was broken and countless other big games against domestic and continental rivals.

So while the papers and other teams may try to play the Rooney situation up as discontent at Old Trafford, it’s hard to imagine that Rooney’s most recent bust-up will dampen the mood around the United camp. If anything, the rest of the league should be terrified at what’s to come.

And who is next on United’s fixture list? None other than city rivals Manchester City. Rooney will be hungry and furious to prove a point following his dull and disappointing display in Turkey, and it could be City that bears the brunt of his outburst.

Is Rooney on a crash course or will he light City up at the weekend? Have your say below!

Great, i was really worried that he was falling out with Ferguson, thanks for putting my mind at ease!
