No Reason to Overreact Over Owen  | read this item

michael-owenIn the buildup to Manchester United’s Champions League clash against Turkish champions Besiktas, many members of the media were writing all about Michael Owen’s cold and lonely time on the bench.

Sir Alex Ferguson, meanwhile, insists that the commotion over Michael Owen’s exclusion is unnecessary.

“Owen has not been involved and I have explained the situation to him.

“The season has not really started. Because of the internationals we are not really playing Saturday- Wednesday – Saturday. He will play plenty of games. Just maybe not early on,” said the wily Scot.

With World Cup qualifiers and other international friendlies being played in these early stages of the season, Owen has definitely seen limited time. His goal against Wigan, though, proves that he has a place in the United squad.

Owen’s arrival at Old Trafford has been heavily criticized since he signed on a free transfer and it’s hard to see why. He may not be playing at the moment, but as Fergie pointed out, the fixtures will start coming thick and fast.

Michael Owen’s place at Manchester United may not be evident at the moment, but rest assured when he gets his chance he’ll take it. And don’t be surprised if he finds himself in Fabio Capello’s World Cup squad.

Is Michael Owen already disappointing or will he take his forthcoming chances? Comments below, please!
