Just because Premier League action is here doesn’t mean that we’re free of transfer rumors just yet. All summer long the speculation has surrounded Real Madrid, and Los Blancos haven’t closed their books for the summer yet. Two of their Dutch stars are still looking for new places to ply their trade, and in Wesley Sneijder and Rafael van der Vaart there are still two bargains of the summer waiting to be snatched.
Rafael van der Vaart is the most imminent departure from Madrid, as the Dutch midfielder has been stripped of his squad number without being assigned a new one. The former Ajax player is clearly surplus to requirements at the La Liga outfit, and he has already signalled his intent to play in the Barclays Premier League.
Arsenal remain the firm favorites to sign the midfielder, and Arsene Wenger hopes he can capitalize on the already established connection between van der Vaart and Dutch striker Robin van Persie. Along with Cesc Fabregas, van der Vaart’s skill, passing, and vision would suit the Gunners’ style of play, and at 26 years old the Real Madrid outcast has his best years ahead of him.
At only £6 million van der Vaart could prove to be the bargain of the summer, and the price tag certainly suits Wenger’s frugal style.
Wesley Sneijder is a stranger case. One of the best wingers in the world when on form, Sneijder has rarely disappointed for Real Madrid. Still, he finds his place at Madrid under threat, and a move away from Spain appears on the cards.
Inter Milan are on the verge of stepping up their pursuit of this Dutch star, and some news sources suggest that a loan deal could happen. Sneijder scored for Real Madrid against Real Zaragoza during a 2-0 win, but his lack of celebration after the goal sparked debate that he’d be leaving the club as soon as possible.
These two players could possibly be the last two world class players left in the 2009 transfer window, and a whole host of Premiership clubs would be better off with these players in their squad.
Will Arsenal sign van der Vaart? Would Sneijder be a perfect complement to Joe Cole at Chelsea? All strong possibilities, and Premier League fans should be hoping to see these two in action soon.
Would Sneijder and van der Vaart be good fits in the Premiership? Have your say below!

I would love to see Arsenal wrap up a deal for Van der Vaart ASAP. I completely agree with you that he seems to be a great fit for Arsenal and I hope that Wenger goes ahead and sign him to create somewhat of a depth in the squad.
I’m shocked that no Premier League has really made moves for either players. They are both terrific talents and I for one would love to see them playing in England this season!
