obafemi-martins Bundesliga champions Wolfsburg have agreed a fee for Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins. The Nigerian was left out of Newcastle’s friendly tonight against Leeds, sparking a furore over his future.

The fee for Newcastle’s remaining biggest star is rumored to be in the region of £9 million. While Newcastle haven’t officially released a statement on the matter, German media sources are confident that the deal is imminent.

The potential transfer comes as a shock to the Premier League world as it means Arsenal has again missed out on a big signing. With Emmanuel Adebayor now at Manchester City, Obafemi Martins could have replaced the strength and pace that the Gunners are missing up front. Arsene Wenger is a known admirer of the Nigerian, and at such a low price it is a mystery as to why the French manager did not jump into the race.

Obafemi Martins signed for the Magpies in 2006 and scored eight goals last season as he saw Newcastle get relegated to the Coca Cola Championship.
