Landon Donovan’s war of words with David Beckham could take a new twist as Donovan inches towards a move to Italy. If Beckham returns to AC Milan at the end of the MLS season, he could be lining up against his current teammate next time the Rossoneri take on Livorno.
Livorno president Aldo Spinelli has told the media that his club are closing in on a move for America’s posterboy. Donovan’s agent has already held talks with the Italian club, and a short-term deal appears to be likely.
At 26 years old, Donovan still has plenty of time to make a good career for himself in one of the world’s greatest leagues. The Serie A is a much more suitable level for a player of his caliber, and in a World Cup year it would be an excellent chance for Donovan to prepare against the world’s top talents.
Landon’s previous stints overseas have resulted in the striker running back home to Major League Soccer. Often citing home sickness and a lack of first team opportunities, Livorno could be just what the doctor ordered for Donovan. A smaller club in a strong league would mean the American can play week in and week out, and with fellow American Oguchi Onyewu now in Italy with AC Milan, Donovan would at least have a fellow countryman nearby.
Would a move to Livorno be good for Donovan? Have your say below!

I don’t think he’s a good fit for the Italian league. I think the Scottish or English league would be much better since the style of play in those leagues is similar to that of MLS. There’s a difference in the level of play of course but I think if there’s a league in Europe where he can succeed it’d be one of those based on the type of player that he is.
