After missing out on Karim Benzema, Manchester United are now targetting Newcastle striker Michael Owen. Owen is available on a free transfer, freeing up some of the Cristiano Ronaldo funds for another player or – to Malcolm Glazer’s delight – to manage United’s debts.
United’s options are beginning to run thin, and Sir Alex Ferguson believes that he could utilize Owen perfectly as a third striker. Owen himself has stated that he only wants to play top flight football, and with Blackburn pulling out of the race for the former England international, United have a clear path to the ex-Liverpool superstar.

I actually agree with you Cathal…Owen will be quite a bargain for United on a bosman transfer…having been a lifelong fan of the guy, I know he is a big-team player with a big-team mentality…he likes to play alongside players who confidently create chances for him to finish…with guys like Valencia, Rooney, and Carrick, the Red Devils could certainly be a great team for him…I hope Arsene Wenger can somehow steal this deal and get Owen to the Emirates.
I know most people won’t agree with me, but I think Owen may well turn out to be a cracking signing for United!
