The United States miraculously scraped into the Confederations Cup semifinals this past weekend, and their fixture against Spain is one of the USA’s biggest matches since the 2002 World Cup. For one of the United States players, it represents a chance for him to break onto the international scene and impress his club teammates.
Jozy Altidore, the shining star of the United States, knows that he’s coming up against some of the best players in the world. He plies his trade in La Liga for Villareal, and now he’s ready to beat his teammates.
After the United States blew past Egypt and into second place in Group B, young Jozy sent Villareal teammate Joan Capdevila a text message telling the Spanish star to “watch out” for the United States.
Altidore’s message, it seems, has fallen on deaf ears. In another one of football’s humorous press conferences, Joan Capdevila played Altidore’s warning off as a text lost in translation.
“Yesterday he sent me a message and told me that we had to be careful,” the Spain fullback said Monday. “But his Spanish is not so great, so I think he made a mistake.”
If the United States wants any chance at winning, Jozy and his fellow young American stars will need to be on top form. If not, a mouthwatering final between Spain and Brazil could be on the cards.

Altidore must have actually meant it after all.
