Manchester City appear to be closer to clinching a deal for current Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o. The Cameroonian has long been a target for City, but with numbers now being bantered back and forth between all parties it looks like an agreement may not be that far off.
City hope to finalize the deal that they believe would be the signing of the summer. The striker was a pivotal member of Barca’s dream team this past season, leading the Catalan giants to La Liga, Copa del Rey, and Champions League success.
The Daily Mail is reporting that the transfer fee for the striker will be just under £30 million, but it is his wages that will make the deal astonishing. Eto’o is reportedly demanding £192,000 a week after taxes, meaning City’s wage bill will increase over £16.5 million a year.
Barcelona, meanwhile, are keen the offload the man who scored 36 goals last term. Eto’o has just one year left on his contract, so any reward for him now would surely play into Barca’s financial plans.
Would Eto’o and Robinho up top be enough to lift City into the top four? Have your say in the comments section below.

City has been the butt of all jokes not because of their players but because of their lack of trophies. I’m not sure the jokes are now on the defending Premier League champions, especially considering United have won three straight and have been in two consecutive CL finals.
When City win something, THEN they can stop being the butt of all jokes.
