bayern-munich-scoreReal Madrid’s recent spending spree has thrown money all around Europe. Regardless of where you are, look up and you’ll see Florentino Perez’s millions rain down. This may leave Manchester United and AC Milan sitting on a wad of cash, but we all know who the eventual winners will be: Lyon and Bayern Munich.

These two clubs have built a stingy reputation, demanding exorbitant fees for their most prized assets – and almost always getting them. Lyon’s firm stance with Chelsea when it came time to sell Michael Essien proved their business acumen, and they did one further when they held out for €25 million from Real Madrid for Mahamadou Diarra.

Bayern Munich, meanwhile, held strong particularly in the transfer of Owen Hargreaves to Manchester United. The transfer saga dragged on for over a year – only because Bayern demanded the fee that they wanted. United wouldn’t budge from £15 million, but in the end had to wave the white flag and pony up the £17 million that Bayern wanted.

So now here we are – a summer where it seems like all of the major clubs have enormous amounts of money to spend. Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Manchester City are all looking to splash the cash this summer, and there’s only two major targets remaining (assuming David Villa jets off to Madrid). Bayern Munich can count on a massive cash injection with the sale of Franck Ribery, and Lyon know that a transfer onslaught for Karim Benzema is only days away. These two clubs hold the key – demand is high, and supply is short. Cash is forthcoming.

Who will sign these two superstars is anyone’s guess, but one thing’s for sure: Bayern Munich and Lyon are kings when it comes to transfers, and they’ll get themselves a princely sum this summer.
