david-villaReal Madrid may have just signed Kaka for a world record €65m, but they’re certainly not done yet. Cristiano Ronaldo might be the biggest name left on Real Madrid’s shopping list, but it’s not the Portuguese winger that is sparking a bidding war between Chelsea and the Spanish giants. David Villa, Spain’s hero on so many occasions in recent years, is being sought after by both Roman Abramovich and Florentino Perez.

Chelsea are ready to pay an astonishing £38m for the Valencia striker, while Real Madrid are reportedly willing to dish out £24m plus Alvaro Negredo for the 27 year old. Both Chelsea sporting director Frank Arnesen and Real’s Jorge Valdano are in Valencia this week to thrash out a deal with the cash strapped club.

Villa’s agent, meanwhile, insists that his client will be driven solely by footballing matters and not by money. “The key here is not just the money being offered but the sporting ambition of the club. David has never only been interested in money,” said agent Jose Luis Tamargo.

In a Premiership Talk poll on Facebook, David Villa has jumped out to an early lead when it comes to which player fans would most like to see in the Premier League come August.

Liverpool hands down. Just imagine them having Villa and Torres in front.
