Another season of the Premier League is now in the books, and Premiership Talk today celebrates its first birthday! On June 7, 2008, Premiership Talk was founded, and a year later the site stands lightyears ahead of its basic roots…although we’re still talking about the same things today that we were a year ago (the Cristiano Ronaldo transfer saga was the very first post on Premiership Talk). To celebrate this milestone, throughout June the Premiership Talk banner at the top of the site will be adorned with gold.
When I started Premiership Talk one year ago, I never thought that it would become such a great community of football fans around the world. It was originally a place for me to put my footballing thoughts on “paper,” but what it has turned into is a testament to football and the people that are a part of it. People in over 180 countries around the globe have come to the site and enjoyed the writings of not only myself but the excellent team of writers, showing the genuine global reach that Premiership Talk and football in general has. I can’t thank you all enough for reading the site, writing for the site, and contributing with your thoughts and comments via the forum, comments section, and emails.
In just one year Premiership Talk has accomplished a lot, all with the help of our excellent readers. Immense thanks goes to all of the writers that have contributed, editors, and other staff members that have done so much behind the scenes work. Huge thanks also go out to every single reader that has come to the site to agree with articles, disagree with articles, and prove that the Premier League is a truly special league that we’re all blessed to watch.
Six months into Premiership Talk’s existence, the site was named the Best New Blog of 2008 in the Soccerlens Awards (it also finished runner-up in the Best Blog Design of 2008 category). Just months later the site was featured in local New England newspapers, England’s The Independent, and many other publications (most recently Soccer LI Magazine). Constant additions such as the Premiership Talk Podcast, which has brought football fans exclusive and unique interviews with some top Premiership names full of real fan banter, the Prem Talk Shop, which, in association with Kitbag, has brought fans the newest gear at great prices, the Premiership Talk Forum, which is a remarkably global meeting place for fans of all backgrounds, languages, and views, and an excellent live scores service that is faster than soccer giants like ESPN Soccernet and FSC, have kept Premiership Talk moving forward, and in our second year we promise to keep the goods coming.
Thanks again to everyone involved for an excellent, fun, and exciting first year, and we look forward to many more great Premier League years!
Special thanks to the following people, in no particular order:
Taylor Fisher for being a renaissance man whenever needed and doing an immense amount of work all while pretending to keep up with his Wednesday Wonders; Zain Alvi for his enthusiasm and excellent articles, even though he’s an Arsenal fan; Joe Radford for being the first addition to the Premiership Talk team and for getting the forums up and running; John Pini for being a devout Prem Talk follower and for rapidly becoming almost as addicted to the beautiful game as I am; Lee Butler for being the comedian, iron man, and resident Rovers fan on the forum; Cathal Breathnach, the owner of Football Corner, for being one of the first of many wonderful football bloggers that I met when I entered this industry, and for being the very first podcast guest; Ahmed Bilal, the owner of Soccerlens, for his encouragement and wisdom throughout Prem Talk’s growth; Boian Filev for trudging through the making of the logo; Fron Nahzi for always looking at the tiny details to make sure everything is as good as it can be (and for some brilliant ideas that will be implemented in the coming year); Oscar Pye-Jeary for having undoubtedly the most witty and comical posts on the site; Andrew Carreiro, Chase Hobert, Danny Watson, Jeff McIntyre, Jason Pedersen, Mike Diamente, and Nick Walsh for all contributing with excellent articles; Shalrie Joseph for being the first professional footballer to be interviewed by Premiership Talk; and, last but certainly not least, every single person involved in the Premier League game, as without them we’d all be productive on weekends.
Here’s to another great year…
