The Manchester City rebuilding process has already started, as Mark Hughes has wrapped up the signing of Gareth Barry. The former Aston Villa midfielder completed the transfer yesterday in a move that cost City £12 million.
Barry had the chance to move to Liverpool last season but decided to help steer Aston Villa into next season’s Europa League. At his new club, Barry will be keen to join up with City’s current superstars such as Robinho, and perhaps even more stars that are on their way. This signing is being viewed by many as a signal of intent by City’s owners – this will be a busy and rewarding summer.
Barry himself is coming under heavy scrutiny, and for good reason. This man turned down a chance at title contenders Liverpool so he could lift Aston Villa to a European spot. Now, he is all of a sudden content with a move to a team that isn’t even in Europe.
Former Aston Villa manager Graham Taylor, though, believes that Barry is joining the right club to match Barry’s ambitions. ”He’ll be aware that there’s nothing more important than playing first-team football in a World Cup year,” said Taylor.
“At Aston Villa it’s almost certain that he would be a first-team regular. I think he would be at Manchester City, but I’m not so certain that would be the case at Liverpool.”

It’s a good signing for Manchester City and now it looks like they are looking hard at Carlos Tevez.
