While Manchester United fans around the globe are celebrating Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Wigan Athletic, Carlos Tevez fans around the globe are also celebrating. Tevez is on the verge of a controversial Old Trafford exit as his contract expires this summer, but for the past few weeks the Argentinian has been fighting to sign his name on another sheet of Manchester United stationery.

It was his decisive goal that decided the Manchester derby at the weekend, and Carlitos did it once again against Wigan Athletic. With the Red Devils 1-0 down, Tevez improvised on a wayward Michael Carrick shot to redirect it into the back of the net with a clever backheel. If you haven’t seen his wondergoal just yet, here it is:

  1. Andy says:

Then why does he look so astonished when he sees it’s gone in? He means to backheel it yes, but like any goal where a player deflects a shot in, its luck, they’re not aiming anywhere in particular, just hoping to nudge it towards goal and hope for the best.

  2. I couldn’t agree more with Sean. Tevez very clearly intentionally backheeled it into the corner. As Sean said, Carrick’s shot going right to Tevez is the only lucky thing about it. Improvisation doesn’t get any better than what Tevez did.

  3. Sean says:

In no way was that goal remotely lucky… maybe carrick’s shot was lucky for just happening to end up at tevez’s feet, but his finish was extremely well improvised. With a ball like that you just want to make good contact on it and hit it goalwards and he did that as well as anyone could have in that position. He deserves some credit for that finish, no need to take it away from him

  4. Andy says:

Yeh i’m gonna agree – looked pretty lucky to me. Not sure i’d say wonder goal at all

  5. Wonder Goal?

It was good, but maybe not a wonder goal.

As a City fan, I would say it was actually quite lucky!
