Manchester United took another step towards the title against Manchester City on Sunday, and Chelsea squared off against a wounded Arsenal side at the Emirates. Here are the winners and losers from today’s action
Manchester United fans woke up this morning to the news that Carlos Tevez is bidding farewell to United, to Manchester, and to England. The Argentine has become a fan favorite at Old Trafford, and his seemingly never-ending transfer saga has been a topic of much debate amongst United fans. It’s almost unanimous that they want him to stay, and his excellent performance capped off by a goal against Manchester City cemented these feelings. The wee man from South America celebrated his goal in front of Sir Alex Ferguson and there is no better way of stating your case than to score a goal.
There’s nothing better than winning one over your closest rivals. The Manchester derby looked like a difficult task before today, but United have continued their excellent form from the Champions League right into this match. City never looked like they had a chance against their superior cross-town rivals, and United are now in pole position to win the league for a third straight time.
After being wrongly eliminated from the Champions League, Chelsea rebounded in the perfect manner. A convincing 4-1 result at the Emirates proves that Chelsea mean business, and already they are staking their claim for next season’s title race. Even big Brazilian center back Alex got on the scoresheet during the Chelsea romp.
The French winger’s revival at Chelsea has been exciting to watch in recent weeks, and Malouda didn’t disappoint against Arsenal. Florent picked up the consolation fourth goal, but it reiterates his good goalscoring form. Especially at a time where his future at Stamford Bridge is being questioned, he’s finally proving his worth at the club.
Yet another chance for the silky Brazilian to shine, and yet another match he goes missing. People were wondering why he’d ever want to leave the big stage that is called Real Madrid, but now we know why. When the expectations are there, Robinho often falls short. Even against an inexperienced Rafael, Robinho didn’t look threatening.
With United winning this match, it means that they can clinch the Premier League title before Liverpool even touch a ball again. A midweek match against Wigan and an early kickoff against Arsenal gives United the chance to earn another six points when only four are needed to clinch the Premiership crown once again. Liverpool can’t do anything about it, and Wigan and Arsenal will be facing an even more difficult and motivated United side. Because of the high stakes, Wigan and Arsenal should be expecting two of the most inspired United performances of the year, and it’s unfortunate for them.
Yes, I know that I called Arsenal the losers in the above point, but this week they are double losers (and perhaps for the whole season they are). While they were the losers above for having to face a United side with extra incentives, their on the pitch performance today makes them even bigger losers. I’m glad that Arsenal played two Big Four sides in quick succession, as Gunners fans finally got to see a conclusion that can’t be debated. Arsenal is not anywhere near the quality of their rivals, and will need to completely overhaul the side if they want to compete for domestic and continental honors anytime soon. Arsenal are awful – absolutely dismal – and two humiliating home defeats in one week proves it.

And United sit atop the Premier League table! And United just humiliated Arsenal over two legs! Hahaha. 4-1 on aggregate.
Fight fight fight!!!!
Its a Man U vs. Arsenal showdown!
The facts are there, no doubt, but I am just pointing out that your tone seems to give an impression of a rant against Arsenal…you’re the writer so obviously the freedom is yours…I just felt like throwing it out there that your tone was inappropriate for writing purposes…but then again, it’s a take it or leave it sort of advice; if you want to leave it, then forget about it, don’t jump to my facebook page and start a new rant over there lol
Not sure where the bias is. Arsenal was completely humiliated this week by their big four rivals. They are not nearly good enough. Show me something I said that isn’t true.
Haha keep venting out your Arsenal hatred…just a reminder though that a use of such strong and biased tone reduces the quality of your articles…
