fulham-v-blackburnIf you’ve tuned in to the Premiership Talk Podcast lately, you surely have heard Taylor and myself praise Fulham for their home form. Still clinging on to a top half spot in the English Premier League, Fulham has built their success so far on their excellent home form. Craven Cottage has been a difficult place for teams to visit this season. Until now.

Just yesterday a struggling Blackburn Rovers side strolled into London to square off against Fulham. An early Clint Dempsey goal made it look like another three points were on the way, but Big Sam’s side refused to quit. In the 69th minute El-Hadji Diouf levelled the scores, before heartbreak struck the Cottagers. In the 85th minute Jason Roberts gave Blackburn an incredible away victory, and a crucial three points.

This result is no shock to Fulham supporters, though, as this follows a trend of poor Fulham results at home lately. The month of March has seen Roy Hodgson’s side lose every single game at home. Hull City did the job on the fourth of March as Manucho put Fulham to the sword in stoppage time. That weekend, Manchester United strolled into town and enjoyed a convincing four-nil victory over Fulham in front of the home crowd. Now, Blackburn has furthered Hodgson’s problem, while Big Sam has capitalized and moved his side out of the relegation zone.

For a side who have been so good at home this season, and so dependent on home results, Fulham will really need to sort themselves out before the run-in. Although they sit all the way in 10th place, Fulham remain only 6 points ahead of the relegation zone. Still, the London outfit are just six points away from the magic 40 point mark, so a couple of home wins could set everything back on the right track. It will definitely be interesting.
