With the possibilities of winning the English Premier League quickly fading away, the next question that remains is, “can Chelsea do enough to finish in the all important top four?” Since 2009 began, Chelsea has a paltry 2-2-1 record and there seems to be a whirlwind of discontent from not only the fans, but it’s also trickled down to the players on the field. The player that seems to be the major player in all of this is Didier Drogba, who has been plagued by injury, suspension and talk of will he stay or will he go?
The talk of Drogba possibly going to Inter Milan, or even more recently back to his old club Olympique Marseille, has to be a huge factor with his teammates as well as his coaches as to whether or not his head is really in the game with Chelsea. Does he want to be here or would he rather be somewhere else? I’d have to say that he would much rather be somewhere else and his play on the field only helps my argument. This season Drogba has played 13 games and he’s only produced 1 goal; it seems that Chelsea isn’t getting their bang for the buck being spent.
To put a band-aid on the situation Chelsea has reached out to Inter Milan by getting Ricardo Quaresma on loan, and if he shows that he’s a worthy player you can expect him to extend his loan with Chelsea this summer and the club could possibly be ok with letting Drogba find a new team to play for.
With 13 games left in the Premier League season, Chelsea has a lot of figuring out to do and not a lot of time to do so. With Arsenal 5 points behind them in the league standings they will surely be able to put the pressure on them, even more so with their newly signed superstar Andrei Arshavin in their lineup.
Looking ahead to the next three games it would seem that Arsenal has the clear advantage to add crucial points to that all important fourth spot. All three games are against teams in no better position than 10th place, whereas Chelsea has to battle very hot Aston Villa and a tough Wigan Athletic team, so perhaps by the end of February we could see Chelsea being on the outside looking in. This is a major reversal of fortunes for a team that was once the best team in the Premier League, but championships aren’t won in September and October and if this downward spiral continues, there could be major changes from top to bottom at Stamford Bridge this summer.

What a timely article. Who would’ve guessed Chelsea would throw themselves into further turmoil by sacking Scolari mid-title race?
If they bring back Avram Grant then this club is a joke.
And more issues at Chelsea continue, reports are they have fired Luiz Felipe Scolari and they might bring back Avram Grant.
