Spurs Still Cleaning Up Ramos' Mess  | read this item

chimbondaAlthough Juande Ramos is gone from Tottenham, the mess that he made still remains. His sale of Jermain Defoe clearly didn’t help the club, and since then Defoe has been brought back to White Hart Lane.

Today, yet another Tottenham old boy makes a return to White Hart Lane. Tottenham have confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Sunderland over the signing of fullback Pascal Chimbonda. The French full-back moved to the Stadium of Light over the summer, but after falling out with Roy Keane he never hit full form at Sunderland. Under Ricky Sbragia, Chimbonda was given another chance, but Sbragia sanctioned the sale of the defender, citing problems elsewhere on the pitch as more important.

From a business stand point, Tottenham are doing some very bad business. The club that was once renowned for buying players on the cheap and selling them for top dollar (that’s you, Michael Carrick and Dimitar Berbatov) is now selling players for cheap and buying them back months later. These sales that are being undone were all sales made under the management of Juande Ramos, who is largely blamed for turning Tottenham into a disaster zone. Harry Redknapp has been faced with the tough task of cleaning up this mess.

Chimbonda is currently on the way to London to undergo a medical, but do you think he’s a good signing for Tottenham? Discuss this and more in the forum, and be sure to check out the podcast. While you’re at it, take advantage of the huge winter sale going on in the Premiership Talk Shop!
