Newcastle’s Martins To Have Hernia Operation
It looks like Newcastle will be without star striker Obafemi Martins for a couple weeks. Next Monday Martins will be off to Germany to undergo a hernia operation. Dr. Ulrike Muschaweck, who is performing the surgery, is confident that this operation will keep him out up to three weeks at most.
Once it was discovered that Martins would need the operation, Dapo Kujore, his representative, became very critical of the Magpies’ medical staff. These comments were not necessarily surprising as Newcastle currently has a whole slew of first team players banged up - 8 to be exact. Oba, though, has clearly distanced himself from these statements as he said, “I wish to make it perfectly clear that I have never criticized the medical team at Newcastle United, who all do an excellent job for the club. All I am concentrating on is getting fit again as soon as possible so I can be back playing and helping the team.”
It looks like Newcastle will have to figure out something for this weekend as their squad will be stretched to its limits in an important home game against West Ham.
