Few managers in the English Premier League can be mentioned in the same sentence as Sir Alex Ferguson. One such manager, though, is Arsene Wenger. While Wenger doesn’t quite match Ferguson’s trophy haul, the Frenchman has always exhibited excellent tactical awareness and transfer market prowess.
Finally, after twelve years at the helm, Wenger’s time at Arsenal could be coming to an end. January always brings countless transfer rumors, but this particular report indicates Wenger could be leaving Arsenal at the end of this season. Real Madrid have offered Wenger a £25 million contract which would begin in the summer.
Wenger has refused offers from Real Madrid on three previous occasions, stating time and time again that he will not break his ties with Arsenal while he is under contract (which ends in 2011). It’s becoming clear, though, that Wenger is beginning to feel the pressure at the Emirates and for the first time his position is under public scrutiny. These factors could lead to a summer exit, and Madrid are reportedly ready to also make an offer for Cesc Fabregas. The pair would likely move with each other.
Without a Premier League crown since 2004, no trophies since the FA Cup in 2005, and currently a 5th place position in the table, this could be a real possibility. Do you think Wenger will be leaving, though? Have your say in the forums.
