rooney-club-world-cupChampions of England, champions of Europe, and now champions of the world. Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United went on to a 1-0 win this morning over Ecuadorian side Liga de Quito to become Club World Cup champions. Wayne Rooney scored the only goal of the game with a deadly finish on 73 minutes. Defender Nemanja Vidic saw red for an elbow in the 49th minute.

The first thing fans might question is the credibility of the Club World Cup. FIFA has struggled for a long time to make this tournament a serious competition, and I’m sure that the players finally took it seriously. After Rooney’s goal you could see the sheer delight on his face as United began to realize that they were only minutes away from another title.

While Cristiano Ronaldo was named the Most Valuable Player, Wayne Rooney definitely deserved it. Rooney was in fine form throughout the entire 90 minutes, always a step ahead of the rest of the players. Rooney’s first touch was absolute class and his finish was of the highest quality. While Ronaldo played well, he was often on the ground and lacked an end product. United fans are surely still waiting for Ronaldo to get back on form.

What do you make of United’s victory? Is it another trophy or is it just a meaningless friendly? Have your say in the forums.
