diarra2711pa_468x363Lassana Diarra is no stranger to moving clubs of late. And today, the Frenchman looks set to be on his way again, this time, to Spanish giants Real Madrid.

At only 23, Diarra has previously been shunned from the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal, and has now reached his goal by moving to the verge of a massive £25 million move to the champions of Spain.

Diarra’s story is one that brings confusion to all football fans. The Frenchman’s amazing ability at such a tender age was well broadcasted and publicized, and at the age of 20 was holding down an important role in the French national side. Despite this, he failed to make an impression at Stamford Bridge and featured only 13 times, and was usually found out of position at right-back, but still managed to do a more than a good job.

The defensive-midfielder then took it upon himself to make a fresh start, while still competing at the highest level in the Premier League, and fellow Frenchman Arsene Wenger gifted Diarra with what appeared to be a dream opportunity to kick-start his career once again in a team challenging for the most prestigious trophy in domestic football. On his deadline-day move, Wenger publicly hailed the ability of the youngster, and spoke freely about what a bargain he could prove to be on a free transfer, and some comparing him to the next Claude Makelele. But again, to the confusion of the Arsenal fans, Diarra’s chances at the Emirates came few and far between, and only found himself on the pitch just 7 times.

Diarra made it clear he needed to travel to Euro 2008 with the French squad, in order to fulfill his dreams and ambitions. He let Wenger know, and the Arsenal chief duly let him go to Portsmouth. For the first time in his Premiership career, Diarra was holding his place in a side, and was showing exactly what he could do, and his ability even surprised the expectations of Harry Redknapp who showed the faith in him. This season, the 23 year old has thrived, and some are now describing him as the best player to ever grace a Portsmouth shirt. This irresistible form inevitably attracted the interest of Real Madrid, Manchester City, and AC Milan, who made it known they are seriously looking into the possibility of following up their interest.

Juande Ramos wasted no time in making Diarra his first priority as Real Madrid manager, and now, it leaves Chelsea and Arsenal thinking what could of been. Especially at time when Arsenal clearly lack any from of strength and anchor in the midfield.
