As always, this weekend’s fixtures will be another set of games bound to be as thrilling and exciting as every week in the Premiership. But this week, things could get a little more interesting all because of Sunderland manager Roy Keane.

Once hailed as a messiah by the Mackems, Roy Keane is now in no control of his future in his job and has admitted he is not sure if he is the right man for the hot seat at the Stadium of Light. This all comes despite taking Sunderland from rock-bottom of the Championship and guiding them to the title, and not to mention the survival campaign of last term. But now, Sunderland find themselves in deep deep trouble in a vicious run of form, and now sitting 18th in the league.

Sunderland started the season off strongly with some impressive results against the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal, but have since alarmed fans by falling to Stoke, Blackburn and most recently Bolton. The Stadium of Light is renowned for its hostile atmosphere and sell out crowds, but recent home games have seen a drop in attendances and an unusually quiet Mackem Army, so it doesn’t take a genius to realize something is wrong.

So, put yourselves in Roy Keane’s shoes for a second. The fans are against you, the players aren’t performing, the press are tipping you to be the next out the door, and find your team rooted to the bottom of the form table. So who better to gather some momentum against and fix everything? Ah of course, Manchester United.

If realism shines through the Sunderland fans and even the Sunderland board, Roy Keane will be heavily judged not on the clash against the champions, but on the run of games his side face immediately after: West Brom, Hull and Blackburn.
