Yesterday’s top news story at Goodison Park was centered around Yakubu’s season-ending injury. Today, word coming out of Goodison Park is that David Moyes and company have found what they think is a suitable replacement. Taking a page out of Manchester United’s book, the Merseyside club are looking into the prospect of signing Swedish legend Henrik Larsson on loan.
Henrik Larsson scored 242 goals in 315 matches for Celtic as he became one of Celtic’s all time greatest players. After a short stint with Barcelona which saw Larsson take home the Champions League crown, the Swede planned to retire at his home town club of Helsingborgs. Shortly after signing for them, though, Manchester United came calling. Larsson signed for the Premier League club on January 1st, 2007, and scored in his debut in the FA Cup. Larsson went on to score a Premier League goal for United as well as a crucial Champions League goal.
While this loan deal is not official, it certainly wouldn’t be a bad move by David Moyes. Larsson is a proven striker in leagues all around the world. Sure, his age is an issue, but Larsson isn’t a striker that relies on pace – it is his vision, anticipation, and ability to finish that separates him from others.
