Following their 2-1 loss at home to Arsenal, Chelsea manager Felipe Scolari wasn’t short of words early Monday. Scolari was joined by Peter Kenyon in talking to the press today as Chelsea revealed their January plans.
Peter Kenyon – Chelsea’s chief executive – revealed that Chelsea do not plan on spending money in January. The London club have toned the spending down after the big money disappointment of Andriy Shevchenko, and Roman Abramovich’s side are now succumbing to the world-wide credit crunch. Instead of spending big in January for new players, Kenyon revealed that powerful striker Didier Drogba will remain at the club. The Ivorian has been linked with Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan side in recent weeks, and Chelsea are now quashing those rumors.
Chelsea fans will still be looking forward to January, though, as some key players will come back into first team action. The aforementioned Drogba is finally getting into shape to play, and starters Ricardo Carvalho and Michael Essien are inching towards fitness.
In other news, Felipe Scolari wants an apology from Mike Dean. The referee from yesterday’s Chelsea – Arsenal match clearly allowed an offsides Robin van Persie goal.
