Karim Benzema With August all but forgotten already, it feels like transfer speculation has been missing for a year. As we move towards December, though, clubs and their fans are readying for discussions about squad improvements. Once January 1 rolls around again, clubs will be scurrying around the transfer market. So while the rest of us are preoccupying ourselves with our squad’s next match (and perhaps a little Football Manager, as well!), what transfer rumors are the media throwing about? Premiership Talk highlights a few:

Manchester United are once again hot on the trail of Lyon’s French sensation Karim Benzema. While most supporters thought the striker crisis was over after signing Dimitar Berbatov, it’s still unclear whether or not Carlos Tevez will seal a permanent deal at Old Trafford. Most fans agree Benzema would be a great Tevez replacement, and the French star has already dropped a few hints that he’d be open to a move. Will Fergie risk losing out on this youngster or will he sign him up as soon as possible?
Mark Hughes, still adjusting to life at the City of Manchester Stadium, is looking for a bit of old Blackburn comfort in the shape of Roque Santa Cruz. The Paraguayan striker has been rumored to jump ship since Mark Hughes did, and January could finally bring that change. With money to spend, some media sources are speculating that City would have to pay a fee upwards of £14m. It’s either Santa Cruz or Fat Ronaldo – who would you choose?
Tottenham replaced the calamitous Paul Robinson over the summer by signing Gomes, and he has turned out to be just as shaky. Now, with a new manager in town, Tottenham are looking towards Ben Foster or Robert Green. Foster is unlikely to leave Old Trafford, so Harry Redknapp plans to land the English shot-stopper on loan. Robert Green, meanwhile, could leave West Ham, and Spurs are certainly interested in purchasing him.
Chelsea is looking into the possibility of signing Michael Owen in January. The once brilliant striker hasn’t enjoyed the best of times on Tyneside and could still forge a great career at a bigger club. With Newcastle in shambles, some of Roman’s millions could spark some interest at St. James’ Park.
