West Ham today confirmed they have completed the signing of Swiss international Valon Behrami from Italian giants Lazio.
Behrami, 23, has cost the London outfit around £5million, a fee which can only signal strong intent following a season of mediocrity from Alan Curbishley.
It is thought United beat off fierce competition from various clubs around Europe for his signature, and have managed to secure his services for 5 years.
Following Pantsill’s departure to rivals Fulham earlier this week, The Hammers were left bare in the right back position, and have acted swiftly to solve this. Behrami can also play in the midfield, a position he is familiar with playing for Switzerland.
Behrami expressed a great desire to play in the “elite league”, and is thought to be ecstatic now the move is sealed.
Reports earlier in the week suggested West Ham were finding themselves in great financial trouble, but Chief Exec Scott Duxbury was quick to label the reports “nonsense”.
So as Curbishley remains active in the transfer market, Hammers fans await the arrivals of more quality players to spur them on in their European dream.
