Recent rumors suggest that three of England’s top four clubs have joined the race to sign Newcastle’s pacy striker Obafemi Martins. With Kevin Keegan entering his first full season back at the St. James’ Park helm, he could be looking to add £15 million to his transfer kitty.
Martins is an interesting prospect for any club in England. With 20 goals already under his belt in England and even more in Italy, Obafemi has the experience and pace that many teams desire. At the tender age of 23 (although there is controversy surrounding his actual age), Martins has many years ahead of him.
If Liverpool sign the quick Nigerian, Fernando Torres could be in heaven with a strike partner sharing similar speed. Arsenal would love to have the opportunity of having the tall and lanky Emmanuel Adebayor (if he stays) beside the smaller but much faster Martins. Chelsea, with all of their strength, are still without a dependable goalscorer outside of Didier Drogba. All three of these teams could certainly benefit from this signing, especially considering how “cheap” £15 million is in today’s market. Darren Bent went for more!
Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool fans: leave a comment about this rumor. Would you like Obafemi Martins in your side? Other fans – what would you think about this move? Would Newcastle miss him or would Michael Owen step into the limelight?
