Felipe Scolari has made his first signing as Chelsea manager as he brings Portuguese midfielder Deco to London for £7.9 million. At 30 years old, it will be interesting to see how Deco copes with the speed and physicality of the English game.
This transfer paves the way for Frank Lampard to leave the club for Inter Milan. With Lampard, Ballack, Essien, Obi Mikel, and now Deco on the books in center midfield, surely there is room to lose one.
What does Premiership Talk think of this signing? Depending on who Chelsea sign up front, it could be a great move for the club. Deco has the imagination, creativity, and technical abilities to make stuff happen, and with a world-class striker to feed off of him Chelsea could pose a major threat. I can’t see Deco struggling in the Premiership as he has his national team manager Scolari there to smooth the transition. All in all, I think this move was solely made to replace the imminent departure of Frank Lampard.
