Shay Given to Arsenal?

By | 8th June 2008

Shay Given has long been regarded as one of the Premiership’s most underrated players. A solid veteran who is an excellent shot stopper, Given has had a quiet career at Newcastle as the titles have passed him by. Now, with Jens Lehmann shipping off to Stuttgart, rumors are that Arsene Wenger is turning towards Shay Given. With only the young Polish keeper Lukasz Fabianski and Manuel Almunia on the books, Wenger realizes that in order to truly be a top club, Arsenal needs to sign a top keeper. Shay Given is certainly that.

It suprises me that Given has remained at Newcastle this long. With retirement around the corner, a move to Arsenal should bring music to Given’s ears. A nice payday to end his career with a club in London should be the exact thing that Shay is looking for. This move appears good for both sides. Let’s see if Arsenal can make it happen…
